a line of business is an agreement between two or more parties that sets a precedence for a specific purpose.

So when we talk about lines of business, we’re generally talking about the agreement between two companies or two departments or two divisions (like a company’s board) to do something. Usually, it involves signing a contract and paying money for the product. We’ll also talk about lines of business in terms of how they create profit and how they affect profits.

The easiest line of business to grasp is the one we talked about before, the one between two companies. For instance, if a company manufactures a product and sells it to a company for sale, then it makes sense that the profit from the sale is the company that sells the product. There’s no line of business when it’s just a company that makes a product and sells it to companies.
